Our Beloved Ormelie Opont Postell Geneus, known as Granny or Mantoune was born on July 30, of 1923 in the town of Petit Trou de Nippes, located in the Department of Nippes, Haiti. She passed away peacefully at home on January 29, 2024 in Boston, Massachusetts at the age of 100 and 6 months.
In 1969, Mantoune emigrated to Canada where she lived for 2 years. At the beginning of 1971, she entered the United States to settle in Boston, MA, where she lived the rest of her life until her passing. Granny was a compassionate, loving and strong woman of faith. One of her passion guided by a strong altruistic sentiment, was to lend a helping hand to others. Granny made a lot of friends among the Haitian community in Boston and many of them considered her as a second mother. Her time and wise advice were always there for the benefit of everyone. Not only her immediate and extended family will dearly miss her but also all of those who had the chance to knew her.
Granny is survived by her 2 daughters Marie Alourde Geneus and Therese Geneus Laforest, her 4 sons, Jean Victor Geneus, Marcel Geneus, Jacques Geneus, Philippe Geneus, her nephew/adoptive son Antoine Joseph (Toto), 11 grandchildren: Michaelle Erika Laforest Desir and family, Gregory Victor Geneus, Stanley Geneus and family, Rodiane Ormelie Geneus and family, Alex Laforest and family, Stephanie Geneus, Carl Andrew Geneus and family, Vladimir Jacques Geneus, Karl Victor Geneus, Christian Jacques Geneus and Olivia Geneus, 7 great grandchildren, her daughter-in-laws Rose-Marie Conserve Geneus, Chantal Mirville Geneus and son-in- law Jean Eric H. Laforest. Mantoune is also survived by half-sisters, nephews and nieces from the Opont and Desrosiers families. The Geneus family wants to express their appreciation and thanks to everyone who has joined them in celebrating the life of Ormelie Opont Postell Geneus. May her soul rest in peace.
Viewing hour will be on Friday February 9, 2024 from 9-10 followed by a Funeral Mass
at 10 AM in St. Mark Church, 1725 Dorchester Ave, Dorchester, MA. Ormelie’s final resting
place will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery, 427 Cummings Hwy, Roslindale.
