James W. Hancock, Jr. 84, of Westport, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Jeanne L. (Manchester) Hancock, they shared 62 years of marriage.
Mr. Hancock was born in Westport, son of the late James W. Hancock, Sr. and the late Lucy E. (Kirby) Hancock and had been a lifelong resident of the town. He had worked as a truck driver for Swansea Concrete, Fall River and retired from Cardi Corp., Portsmouth. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and loved a good clambake. Mr. Hancock was known for enjoying the simple things in life and will be remembered as someone who was always willing to help out his family and friends.
Survivors along with his wife include his 2 sons: James W. Hancock III and his wife Kristine of Fairhaven and Jay M. Hancock and his wife Susan of Tiverton; his sister: Lucy Mattos of Newport; 3 grandchildren: Jordan Hancock, Erik Hancock and Alyssa Hancock; 2 great grandchildren: Levi and Noah James; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Clifford Hancock and Phyllis Anctil.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff from both Southcoast VNA and Charlton Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care they gave to Mr. Hancock.
Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Potter Funeral Home from 6-8 P.M.
Interment will be private.
