BELMONT ---- James ‘Jim’ McCarthy, 71, the keeper of 51 Swallow Road, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord.
Jim was born and raised in Manchester, NH, the son of George and Estelle (Goulet) McCarthy.
He joined the United States Navy in 1971 and trained as a medical assistant in the Navy Corp. He was stationed in Portsmouth, VA, but his proudest assignment was serving aboard the USS Constitution “Old Ironsides.”
Jim held many jobs, but he loved being a truck driver. His routes brought him all over New England where he formed great bonds with many of his customers. His true passions in life were astronomy, photography, competitive target shooting and his cats. It brought him immense joy sharing these passions with his children. He loved teaching others these subjects and made many lifelong friends doing so.
Jim will be remembered as a friendly, outgoing, caring man with a kind soul who would always try to put a smile on your face with a silly little song about cats or by telling you “I want you to know you are doing a great job!” He made friends everywhere he went. He always managed to find the positive in every situation and truly treasured life.
In addition to his parents, Jim is predeceased by his brothers, Richard and Daniel, and his sister Barbara.
His children Kerry, Meghan, and Sarah will miss him dearly. He leaves behind five beloved grandchildren, Percy, Addison, Colton, Madalyn and Damian, and of course Coco Kitty and many dear friends and family.
There will be no calling hours.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 3:00pm, during the Total Solar Eclipse, at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303.
