Obituary

Henry Banks Allen, 88, of Tifton passed away Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton's First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. W. Ches Smith III and the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mr. Allen was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Wheeler Bryan Jr., Bill Lankford, Eddie Willis, Jim Hannon, Morgan Moon and Ricky Powell served as pallbearers.

Born January 7, 1916, in Tift County, Mr. Allen was the son of the late Ora Connell Allen and the Rev. Lyman Banks Allen. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Willis Bryan Allen. Before retiring, he was a schoolteacher; a school principal; and a former Tift County School Superintendent. He was also a farmer. He was a former member of the Georgia House of Representatives; a former member of the Tift County Board of Education; and a former member of the Tift County Hospital Authority. He was a member of the Tifton Kiwanis Club and Woodmen of the World. He was the recipient of the Liberty Bell Award which is presented by the Tifton Bar Association.

Mr. Allen is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, W. Wheeler and Anne Bryan of Atlanta; one daughter, Vicky Bryan Orr of Tifton; two brothers, the Rev. Eddie Allen of Chula and Earl Allen of Atlanta; four sisters, Earline Allen and Betty Jean Walls, both of Chula; Alice Powell of Tifton and Mary Evelyn Harrison of Cedartown; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Dr. Charles Richard Fana of Savannah, Marie and James Michael Hannon and W. Wheeler Bryan, Jr., all of Atlanta; and one great-grandson, Charles Patrick Hannon, III of Atlanta.
