Obituary

Gertrud Messing Abell, 75, of Nokomis, Florida passed away Monday, June 28, 2004, at Bon Secours-Venice Hospital in Sarasota, Florida. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2004, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Ruth Phagan officiating. Mrs. Abell was laid to rest at Enigma City Cemetery.

Mrs. Abell's nephews served as pallbearers.

Born January 29, 1929, in Duisburg, Germany, Mrs. Abell was the daughter of the late Heinrich Johannes Messing and Maris Magdalena Bongardt Messing. She moved to Nokomis, Florida in 1992 from Hazel Crest, Illinois. She was a homemaker; and her passion was cooking and making a good home for her family. She was of the Catholic faith.

Mrs. Abell is survived by her husband of 29 years, Paul Abell of Nokomis, Florida; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Janet Abell of Wausau, Wisconsin, Jeffrey and Judy Abell of Enigma and John and Amy Abell of Mokena, Illinois; three grandchildren, Zach Abell, Rachel Abell and Danielle Abell; two brothers, Theo Messing of Mulheim, Germany and Frans Messing of Duisburg, Germany; and three sisters, Agnes Besser of Homer Glen, Illinois, Else Kaldewey of Dinslaken, Germany and Waltrud Lux of Jadebusen, Germany.
