THOMPSON, JOHN F. “Jack” of South Boston, surrounded and comforted by family, passed peacefully on January 28 after a brief illness.
Born in Savin Hill, Jack is the son of Margaret “Peg” Thompson (Ahern) of South Boston and the late John “Jack” Thompson. He is the loving father of Ryan Thompson of South Boston, and dear brother to Michael Thompson and Helena Venere of Lower Mills, David and Julia Thompson of Duxbury, and Kerian and Derek Baszkiewicz of South Boston. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Michael, Kathryn, Nolan, Saoirse, and Eibhleann.
Jack was a highly skilled craftsman, and former member of Carpenters Local 33 and IATSE Local 11. He also worked with IATSE Local 481 building and fabricating sets for local/national theatrical and television productions, as well as for major motion pictures.
Jack was very patriotic and deeply loved America. He was a staunch defender of the values of our country and a fierce adversary to those he felt challenged the freedoms it affords.
He will be missed for his willingness to always help with home improvement projects (even if it was mostly to point out what you were doing wrong), and for his quick, sharp wit that he wielded freely on foe and friend alike.
At Jack’s request there will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Monica Church, 331 Old Colony Avenue, South Boston on Thursday, February 8th at 10AM. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jack may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project:
