Elsie L. (Gomes) Baptista, 89, of New Bedford crossed over peacefully on January 27, 2024 at the Royal of Fairhaven.
Born in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late Enos and Mary (Mattos) Gomes, and wife of the late Manuel Baptista.
Living in New Bedford most of her life, she retired from St. Luke's Hospital after working there for 20 years.
She was a loving Mom, Nana, Auntie and friend. Elsie was happiest when doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and spending time with her family. She also loved reading, watching the Golden girls and listening to music.
She is survived by her son, Adam Baptista of New Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Donna Baptista of Dartmouth; 8 grandchildren, Kenneth Baptista, Michael Andrade, Jr., Joshua Baptista, Amber Baptista, Lindelle Baptista, Moriah Baptista, Toni-Lee Lopes and Adam Baptista, Jr.; also great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Glenn Baptista and Rosalind Andrade and the sister of the late Joaquina Gomes, Enos Gomes, Albino Perry and Leo Perry.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 3rd at 10 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Her family will receive guests on Saturday morning from 9-10 AM prior to her service. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
