Shirley Gibbs Gaines, 75, of Ben Hill County, Georgia, died Monday, January 29, 2024, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Bill Tracy and the Rev. Roy Gibbs officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home in Fitzgerald. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery, in Bill Hill County, Georgia.
Mrs. Gaines was born May 4, 1948, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Joseph Calvin & Ruby Joyce Selph Gibbs. She was a seamstress for H. R. Kaminsky & Sons, and retired as Activities Director of Fitzgerald Nursing Home, serving for over 30 years. She was a compassionate caregiver and brought smiles to all her residents. Mrs. Gaines was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Gaines of Ben Hill County; a son, Ronald “Ron” & Kay Huckaby of Rebecca and their children: Noel and Travis; a stepdaughter, Rhonda Paulk of Ocilla and her children: Kristen and Rebecca; and great-grandchildren: Avery and Eli; and a brother, Rev. Roy & Nancy Gibbs of Cordele. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Joey Huckaby and a niece, Claire Gibbs.
Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald, is in charge of arrangements.
