John Francis Norton Sr., 78, of Whitman, MA, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at South Shore Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in Weymouth in 1945 to the late Francis and Kathryn (Morse) Norton. He had been a resident of Whitman for many years and a former resident of Abington and Weymouth.
John was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He graduated from Weymouth High School in 1963 and attended Bentley College before joining the U.S. Army Reserves. He recently attended his sixtieth high school reunion and enjoyed seeing his classmates.
Throughout his lengthy career, he worked at Boston Financial Data Services, Microsonics, BkB, Equiserve, and State Street Bank. He was a valued employee at Computershare, Inc. until 2023.
John was one of the kindest and most generous people and was cherished by his family and friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and enjoying holidays with his family.
John was predeceased by his parents, his wife, the late Norma (Brann) Norton; his sister, Mary Louise (Norton) Barton; his brother, Arthur Norton; and his nephew, William Barton.
John is survived by his son, John Norton Jr., and his fiancée, Sarah Torrey, of Abington; his son, James Norton, and his wife, Kim Norton, of Hull; his grandchildren, Isabella Norton, Jamison Norton, Hunter Torrey, and Jaxon Torrey; and his siblings Richard Norton (Patricia) of Rockland, Joseph Norton of Brockton, Carol Sullivan (Ronald) of Marlborough, Elizabeth Herendeen (Paul) of St. Augustine, FL, William Norton of Weymouth, and Marguerite Hearn (James) of Hanson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Pratt 3 South at South Shore Hospital for their kindness and compassion in caring for John.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
