Mr. John "Jack" B. Dunne Sr., a longtime resident of Medford and beloved husband of the late Joyce M. (Kennedy) Dunne, passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Thursday evening, January 25, 2024. He was 85 years old.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on July 2, 1938, he was the beloved son of the late Stephen G. and Mary (Bradley) Dunne.
Jack was a US Army veteran, entering the military in Boston on November 30, 1956, and serving at the Korean DMZ as an MP. He received his Honorable Discharge from Ft. Devens on November 27, 1959. He was awarded a letter of Commendation and a Good Conduct Medal for his exemplary service. He also played the bugle for his Company and at numerous Army ceremonial events. In civilian life Mr. Dunne was a Meat Cutter, serving high-end restaurants for many years. In his spare time, he thoroughly enjoyed music - a passion he shared and passed down to his children. His love for classical music continued throughout his life and he would frequently invite others to enjoy it with him. He thoroughly enjoyed expressing his knowledge of history through discussion and the art of storytelling. He also loved carpentry in his younger years. He will be dearly missed.
Jack is survived by his loving children; Catherine M. Himmel of Londonderry, New Hampshire and John B., Jr. and his wife Anne Marie Dunne of West Newton, grandchildren; Dawn, Amanda, Jim Jr. and Evelyn and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late James M. “Jim” Dunne, brother of the late Stephen G. Jr., and Pauline Hicks, Son-in-law; Keith W. Himmel and granddaughter; Samantha.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 11:30 AM. Interment will be privately held. Donations in John’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
