CHICOPEE – Arden “Aba” (Porter) Gallant, 64, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on November 25, 1959, a beloved daughter of Audrey J. (Ching) Porter of West Springfield and the late William W. Porter. She was born in Holyoke, raised in Hawaii and moved to West Springfield where she graduated from West Springfield High School. She lived in Indian Orchard and on Providence Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee before moving to Fairview in 1997 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was employed as a legal secretary for Attorney Scott Scolnick in Agawam and previously for Lyons & Lyons Attorneys at Law in West Springfield. She volunteered many hours along with her daughter and husband with the Holyoke Catholic High School Speech Team and judged many tournaments throughout Western Massachusetts. During her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling and going to the theater. Also, she taught English to Russian immigrants and was a member of the Bookettes Reading Club in Chicopee. She was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Donald J. Gallant. They were married on October 16, 1981 at Saint Anne Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 42 years of happiness together. In addition to her husband and mother, she leaves her loving and devoted daughter, Lindsay M. Gallant and her companion, Brandy McRobbie, of Springfield; her three dear brothers, William Porter, Jr. and his wife, Tamra, of Wilbraham, Robert Porter and his companion, Jennifer Morissette, and Donald Porter and his wife, Sara, all of West Springfield; her two dear brothers in law, Paul Gallant of Chicopee and Gary Gallant and his wife, Kimberly, of Virginia; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. Her Funeral will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home parking lot is located in the rear.
