Obituary

Winifred A. “Winnie” (Swann) (Howard) Christensen, age 89, of Attleboro, died peacefully on January 13, 2024 at Good Samaritan Medical Center. Winnie was the wife of the late Carl P. Christensen. Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth (Blanchard) Swann.

Winnie was a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and a graduate of Brockton High School. She worked at Alden Shoe Company in many capacities and retired after 35 years. Winnie was always an active member of her church, initially at the First Church in West Bridgewater where she was a Deacon and then at her church in Florida where she lived for 20 years.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading, quilting, creating crafts and attending craft shows. For many years she enjoyed time spent at the family cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee where she would go boating and kayaking.

Winnie took great joy in taking her therapy dogs Missy and Katy to Nursing Homes to brighten the residents’ day.

Winnie is survived by her children Linda J. Howard and her companion Dale McConnell of Pocasset and Dale Howard and his wife Laureen of Attleboro; a niece Janna Morris of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and thru an extended family, a granddaughter Brynne Hampton and her husband Ryan and great granddaughters Charlotte Claire and Rosalie Grace.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated at First Church, 29 Howard Street, West Bridgewater on Wednesday, February 7, at 9:30am followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at 11:30am.

Donations in Winnie’s name may be made to the First Church, or a Therapy Dog Association.
