Gerald Richard Surette, 77, of Litchfield, NH, died Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Maple Leaf Healthcare Center in Manchester, NH. Gerry was born on August 9, 1946, in East Boston, MA. He was the son of the late John and Marie B. (Coffin) Surette and had been a resident of Litchfield for the past 48 years.
Gerry served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he worked as a technician with the Xerox Corporation for 20 years. A former Londonderry Fish & Game Club member, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, volunteered with the NH Fish and Game Dept, and contributed to their “Let’s Go Fishing” guide. Gerry was also a member of the Litchfield Volunteer Fire Dept from 1977 to 1983 and a member of the Litchfield Zoning Board of Approval during the 1980s.
After retirement, Gerry and Barbara developed a passion for traveling across the country - where they spent much of their time in Cody, Wyoming, and shared their love of the West with their children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Joseph) Surette of Litchfield, NH; son, Matthew J. Surette and his wife Tara of Hampstead, NH; daughter, Rebecca Surette and her partner Peter Dumont of Laconia, NH; former son-in-law, William Davidson of Londonderry, NH; four grandchildren, Nicholas Davidson, Joseph Davidson, Abigail Davidson, and Raymond Dumont, two great-grandchildren, Liam and Nova, two brothers, Thomas Surette and his wife Linda of Gilford, NH and Paul Surette and his wife Julie of Swampscott, MA; four sisters, Leona Melanson and her husband Jim of Meteghan, Nova Scotia, Jean Martilla of Hampton, NH, Janice Ciampa of Exeter, NH and Suzanne Whiteside and her husband Richard of Louisa, VA.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, January 30, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd, Londonderry, NH. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. The burial will follow at 12:00 PM at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Liberty House, 221 Orange St, Manchester, NH 03104, or Friends of the Manchester Animal Shelter, 490 Dunbarton Rd, Manchester, NH 03102.
