Correne “Connie” Susan Roode, 73, of East Brookfield, passed into her eternal home on January 21st after a lengthy battle against many ongoing medical issues at UMass Medical Center in Worcester, MA. Connie was born on January 29th, 1950, to Ralph and Thelma Schoemer in Pittsburgh, PA. After a happy and loved childhood, in 1969, she met the love of her life, Wayne Roode, and they wed in 1971. She was a devoted and loving wife, modeling the Proverbs 31 woman, one of her favorite Bible passages. Connie and Wayne spent 52 years happily married and raising their 3 children, Doug, Brian, and Heather.
Following the birth of her first child, Doug, she chose to dedicate her life to motherhood. A natural and gifted mother, she was her family’s foundation, providing a solid and nurturing environment for growth; not only for her own children but for all the children who spent time in her home. Connie was a passionate cook and baker. In addition to filling her home with warmth and kindness, she often filled it with tantalizing smells and delicious treats. She was an excellent gift giver, always knew the right thing to say, never missed a special date or school event, and brought up her children to know and love the Lord. Regardless of what school and church activities her children chose to do, she was their biggest cheerleader and supporter.
She deeply loved Jesus, and outside the home, she was most often found volunteering at Medway Village Church where she passionately cultivated the same warmth she created in her home. Connie served in the Sunday School program as a teacher and superintendent, created and organized VBS programs, helped maintain a thriving women’s fellowship, and served the church as an elder, modeling for her children what a servant’s heart looked like. As her children grew, she discovered she had so much more love and instruction to give that she spent her time teaching for many years at the Good Shepherd Nursery School in Medway, MA.
Connie was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Thelma, and her sister, Betsy. She is survived by her husband, Wayne; children, Doug (Robyn), Brian (Amy), and Heather; grandchildren Luke, Daniel, Jacob, Elianna, and Jackson; brother Butch (Carol) and sister, Pam; as well as other cherished family and friends. While Connie’s warmth, love, and wisdom will be missed forever, her legacy of love will continue to ripple out into the world through her family and all the lives she touched in her time here on Earth.
We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all Connie’s doctors and medical staff who have so tirelessly treated and cared for her. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
