Maria Do Carmo Soares Ramos, affectionately known as Macame, Vovo Came, Came, and Camezinha, came into the world on January 3, 1946, on the enchanting island of Sao Nicolau, Cabo Verde. Born to Pedro Julio Soares and Maria Jose Soares, her roots were deeply embedded in the rich tapestry of her heritage.
In the course of her life, Maria Do Carmo embarked on a beautiful journey with Eugenio Manuel Ramos, sealing their union in marriage. Together, they relocated to Sao Vicente, where their shared endeavors resulted in the establishment of multiple residences and businesses, a testament to their dedication and hard work.
In 1998, Maria Do Carmo set foot in the United States, specifically in Massachusetts, marking a significant chapter in her life. Her journey to a new land was accompanied by some of her children, forging a bond that transcended geographical distances. Despite the physical separation, Maria Do Carmo remained a steadfast pillar for the Ramos family, extending her support and love across borders.
A mother of seven—four sons and three daughters—Maria Do Carmo's legacy lives on through her children: Jose Ramos, Arlindo Ramos, Sonia Ramos, Leonildo Ramos, Marlene Ramos, Edir Ramos, and Carmen Ramos Fonseca. Her impact is further felt through her 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, as well as her two sisters Victorina Soares (Bita) and Águeda Maria Soares (Zueda), numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and cherished loved ones.
Music, outings, food, and family were Maria Do Carmo's sources of joy, reflecting her vibrant spirit and love for life. She held a profound belief in the strength of family bonds, encapsulated in her poignant last words:
"União faz a força"
(Unity is strength).
On January 21, 2024, Maria Do Carmo bid farewell to this world, embarking on a new journey. Though she may have left the physical realm, her memory and love endure, eternally residing in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her. Maria Do Carmo Soares Ramos, a beacon of love and unity, leaves behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.
