Brenda Gorman Reilly Malloy
Beloved Mother, Sister, Friend, and Avid Golfer
Brenda Gorman Reilly Malloy, 88, recently of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, January 2, 2023. She was born on October 14, 1935, in Boston, Massachusetts, at Saint Margaret's Hospital, to John Rowen Reilly and Alice Gorman Reilly. Brenda was predeceased by her husband, Donald G. Malloy, as well as siblings John R. Reilly and Mary Alice Reilly Cavanaugh. She is survived by her brother, Richard. M. Reilly, as well as her three children, Brenda Malloy Reiter, Donald J. Malloy, and Ellen C. Malloy.
Brenda grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts, and as a youth she spent her summers in North Scituate, Massachusetts. After Convent of the Sacred Heart, Milton Academy, and Manter Hall School, Brenda graduated from Boston College Connell School of Nursing, earning a Bachelor of Nursing (1958) and Master of Nursing (1959). After college, Brenda lived with her family in Detroit, Michigan; Whittier, California; Lincolnshire, Illinois; and in Naples, Florida, where she overlooked the 17th hole of her beloved golf course at Wilderness County Club.
Brenda was an accomplished golfer, a voracious reader, and had a passion for bridge, knitting, and global travel. She valued giving back to the community and was always one to volunteer. Specifically, she was an election judge for twelve years in Lake County, Illinois; was on the Regional Library Board on the North Shore of Chicago; was a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader; and was on the Red Cross First Aid Demonstration Team. She held numerous roles in women's golf in both Chicago and Naples.
Brenda was a survivor who lived a life driven by integrity, humbleness, and strength of character. A loyal friend and trusted confidant to many, Brenda always put other's needs before her own. Many of the people she touched during her life referred to her as a beautiful soul. She can be described as a quiet and graceful presence with nerves of steel at the core. She is already deeply missed by the many people whom she touched during her life.
A memorial service will be held on January 27th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Saint Bartholomew Parish in Needham, Massachusetts. Prior to the mass, there will be a visitation opportunity from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
