Madalena "Melanie" Lobo Fortes, 48, of New Bedford passed away peacefully on January 19, 2024.
Born in Lisbon, Portugal, daughter of Eugenia (Lobo) Fortes and the late Joao Fortes, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
Melanie enjoyed taking care of kids and working as a paraprofessional at the Alfred J. Gomes School. She enjoyed dancing, watching TV and was a foodie. She loved her friends and family, especially her grandson.
Melanie was recently baptized at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dartmouth.
Survivors include her mother, Eugenia; her children, Maryah Badillo of New Bedford, and Orlando Badillo of Fall River; her grandson Rowen Coan; her siblings, Henry Fortes of Rhode Island, Julie Hartnett of New Bedford, Anne Fortes of New Bedford, Maria Fortes of New Bedford, Fatima Fortes Marcelino of Bridgewater, Joaquim Fortes of Hyannis, John Fortes of New Bedford, and Elizabeth Fortes of New Hampshire; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Madalena's Funeral will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with her Funeral Service being held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 400 Cross Rd., Dartmouth at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery. Her visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 2-6 PM.
