Richard Arthur “Dick” Heiden passed away in Concord, Massachusetts, on January 19, 2024 at the age of 93.
Dick was born on February 28, 1930, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He graduated from Searles High School in Methuen, Massachusetts in 1947. He received a diploma in Textile Chemistry and Dyeing from Lowell Evening Textile School in 1952, and he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Engineering from Lowell Technological Institute in 1957. He also received a Master of Science degree in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1961. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for eight years and was honorably discharged in November 1958.
He retired from Amatex Corporation in 1996, as Plant Manager of the Laconia, New Hampshire operation. Prior to that he was Plant Manager at Dartmouth Woolen Mills in Claremont, New Hampshire, Manager of Cloth Operations at Woolrich Woolen Mills in Woolrich, Pennsylvania, and Plant Superintendent at Appleton Mills in Appleton, Wisconsin.
While at Amatex Corporation he designed and developed a complete new product line of fiberglass gasketing insulation materials for the stove industry. He established a customer base in the United States and Canada.
In 1997, shortly after retiring to Leesburg, Florida in 1996, Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Joan (Schwarzenberg) Heiden. He is also preceded in death by his parents, George and Frieda Heidenreich, and his brother George Heiden.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Ruth Heiden and her spouse Marsha Maurer of Milton, Massachusetts, and their daughter Clara; his daughter Carol Eckardt and her husband Burnell of Kewanee, Illinois and their six sons, Burnell, Andrew, Peter, John, Joseph, and Michael; his son Richard G. Heiden and his wife Gayle of Saint Cloud, Florida and their two sons Richard and Jordan; and his daughter Susan Lewis and her husband Jeffrey of Maynard, Massachusetts and their two sons Christopher, Daniel, and daughter Theresa. He also had numerous great grandchildren.
