John Dewey Williams
March 29, 1935- January 23, 2024
John Dewey Williams, 88, of Anderson passed away at his residence on January 23, 2024 following a brief illness.
He was born on March 29, 1935 in Decatur, Illinois to the late Racie Malon and Dorothy May (Paige) Williams. He served in the US Marines from 1956-1959 during the Korean War. He attended Anderson College in 1959 where he met his wife, Donna. He graduated from Anderson College with a Master’s Degree in Education.
He taught health and physical education at Sheridan Jr. /Sr. High School, South Side Middle School and retired from East Side Middle School in 1995. He enjoyed working at the Anderson Athletic Pool, Aqua Gardens, and May’s Ice Rink.
He was a member of Linden Lane Church of God, East Side Church of God, North Anderson Church of God and Madison Park Church of God where he was a greeter. He had many friends through his connections at Anderson University and church which include special friends, Barrett Bates, Ed Allen, and Steve Barrows. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Donna (Roush) Williams of Anderson whom he married on August 22, 1959; five children, John Stephen (Mindy) Williams, Kelly (Jeff) Ogden, Scott Dewey Williams, Kasey (Mark) Gary, and Shawn (Jennifer Lehman) Williams; special family, JB (Drew) Shelton and their daughters, Bo and Berkley Shelton; 13 grandchildren, Wade (Jessi) Williams, Cole (Emilee) Williams, Taylor Williams, Dean (Sara) Williams, Kirby (Tyler) Bess, Kaleb (Ayda) Ogden, Krosley Ogden, Bailey (Alliyah) Williams, Brogan (Lindsay) Gary, Quincey Gary, Brinkley Gary, Ramsey Gary, and Quade Gary; 12 great-grandchildren, Beckett, Sloane, Wyatt, Nora, Enzo, Maeve, Kreegar, Briar, Alara, Madden, Kalloway, and Roe; three nephews, Chris, Howard, and Jimmy; three nieces, Carol, Laura, and Leigh.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Maxine Mooney, Marsha Meadows, and Linda Diane.
A memorial service will be on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 6:00pm at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Rev. Tom Malbone officiating. There will be military rites at the beginning of the service. A private burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00pm-6:00pm on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Anderson University Athletic Department or Madison Park Church of God.
