Obituary

It is with deep emotion that Joan Porambo along with The MacPherson Family sadly announce her loving fiancée Kyle Shea MacPherson, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, in New York City at the young age of 40, surrounded by his family and fiancée. Kyle lost his courageous battle to cancer after a long hard fight.

Kyle was born in Laconia, NH on August 15, 1983, the son of Ronald and Francesca (Shea) MacPherson.

Kyle graduated from Laconia High School in 2002 and went on to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a chef at New England Culinary Institute in Montpellier, Vermont. While attending NECI, Kyle was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer which typically occurs in adolescence. He battled this cancer with the help of his parents, traveling back and forth to The Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock for treatments. As one of the oldest patients, the children took a liking to him and his enthusiasm. Through Kyle’s strong will and immense vigor for life he not only overcame his cancer and willed himself into remission, but also graduated from NECI.

After graduating Kyle went on to work in the Boston area honing his skills with some well-regarded chefs before heading back to the mountains of Vermont. He worked at various restaurants while enjoying skiing and hiking with his four-legged companion, Harley. He eventually found his way to The Cliff House Restaurant on Mt. Mansfield at Stowe Resort working as the Executive Chef. His love for cooking would be surpassed when he met his match and began dating Joan in 2015. Joan was hired by Kyle at The Cliff House and he would become her “boss” for a short time as Joan would say. Eventually when they went into business forming Field Notes; a farm to table dining experience, Joan would become The Boss. They set their sights to upstate New York with the aspiration of setting up a brick-and-mortar restaurant and becoming part of the revitalization of downtown Troy. Just as they signed their tenant lease and got the wheels in motion for their new restaurant, Kyle started experiencing the effects of his second cancer. Through all the ups and downs his loving fiancée Joan was by his side along with Joan’s best friend, Rachel Marouchoc, CRNP who helped set Kyle’s medical wheels in motion, providing much needed medical advice along his journey. Kyle bravely fought his battle with cancer until the very end, his fight never wavered.

Kyle was loving, passionate, smart, adventurous, and possibly most importantly, kind to his core. He had the makings of the perfect son, partner, brother, uncle, dog & cat dad, and friend. He made an impact on many lives by being unabashedly himself, no matter the situation, and his calm confidence imparted to those around him. He was a breath of open and honest fresh air in a world where many don’t have the courage to be their truest self. Kyle had a love for the outdoors, great food, music and playing guitar. He loved his family and always took time to share in all his nephew and nieces’ milestones. His absence will leave a profound void in our lives, a space that only memories and the enduring impact of his presence can fill. There are not many things that last forever but missing him will.

Kyle is survived by his fiancée Joan Porambo of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, his mother Francesca (Shea) MacPherson of Sanbornton, his brother Corey MacPherson and his wife Donna of Waltham, Massachusetts, brother Jason MacPherson and his wife Christine of Dracut, Massachusetts; four nieces Sydney, Isla, Marissa and Reagan; one nephew Joshua; In-laws Robert and Cathryn Porambo of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania; and brother-in-law James and his wife Erin Porambo of Troy, New York. Kyle is predeceased by his father Ronald MacPherson and loving dog Harley.
