Thomas Edward Dwyer, III, Age 90, of Boynton Beach, FL, formerly of Medford and Reading, MA, passed away, Wednesday morning, January 3, 2024. Tom's family and friends would describe him as one of a kind. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a dedicated grandfather and a beloved friend, colleague and teammate. He will be deeply missed and he'll be remembered for all the love, support and joy he brought to the lives of those around him. Tom was born on January 8, 1933. He grew up in Medford and attended St. Joseph School. He then attended Malden Catholic High School, where he was class president for three years, captain of the hockey team and inducted into the school's Hall of Fame. Tom continued his education at Boston University, where he played hockey and captained the team. He was a member of ROTC and, upon graduation, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, based at Whitman AFB in Missouri and Ellington AFB in Newfoundland. Upon his successful Air Force years, Tom returned home and was hired by the Gillette Co. in South Boston. He earned his MBA from Northeastern University and continued at Gillette in various management positions for 26 years. He proceeded to work as a professor at Boston University, teaching both graduate and undergraduate, for 22 years, until his retirement. He was also an instructor with Dale Carnegie for over ten years.
Tom is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara; children, Tom Dwyer and Leslie Gent and her husband, Peter; grandchildren, Patrick Gent and his wife, Lindsey, Meredith Reid and her husband, Jack and Tara Dwyer; great-grandchildren, Rory, Rowen, Rhys, Hayden and Will. He also leaves two sisters, Cathy Weckel of Bel Air, MD and Sister Mary Dwyer of Nazareth, KY.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial mass for Tom on Thursday, February 1st, at 10 AM in Saint Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
