Richard “Rick” Melvin Reed, of Lakeville suddenly passed away on January 19th, 2024, at the age of seventy-five.
Born and raised in Whitman, graduating from Whitman Hanson Regional High school in 1966.
He was the son of the late Melvin and Dorothy (Willis) Reed.
He was the beloved husband of over fifty years to Patrica A. (Pezzano) Reed, they raised with their children in Rockland before moving to East Bridgewater. Rick was the beloved father of five children, Kim Shaughnessy and her husband Barry Belcastro of Quincy, Kelley Hannon and her husband Walter of Quincy, Scituate, Joseph Mahoney and Timothy Whitman of Arizona, and Tanya (Reed) Jones and her husband James of Lakeville. He was an amazing Papa to nine grandchildren, Jeffrey Reale and wife Carolyn, Jennifer McMullen and husband Ryan, Kaitlyn Mahoney, Michael Boucher and wife Jaqueline, Brittany Peoples and fiancé Derek, Christopher Kingsley, Kyle Kingsley and partner Kayla, Reid Whitman, and Brycelyn Whitman both of Arizona. He leaves behind sixteen great Grandchildren, Makayla, Lucas, Tyler, MJ, Ryan Jr., Tolan, Tommy, Nathan, Kendyl, Kameron, Tommy, Denver, Tucker, Georgia, Joy and Kade. He also leaves behind his siblings, Gene Reed, Wendy Harriman and husband Greg, the late Sandy Murphy and husband John, Danny Reed and wife Carol, the late Scott Reed and wife Janice and Kelley Hannon’s 3 stepchildren, Jessica, Brianna, Walter and many nieces and nephews.
Rick was a diligent rugged man who took extraordinary pride in his masonry projects. He owned his own business for 45 years, before being employed by Peabody Properties Inc. for the past 10 years.
He was an athlete who loved all the Boston sports teams. Rick was a Golden Glove Champion, Professional Boxer who was always in great physical shape. He trained and sparred with the great Marvelous Marvin Haggler.
He enjoyed talking with his family and adult grandchildren about sports and life lessons for hours. Rick was known to enjoy a few Miller Lites at his favorite local pubs. He loved to watch his grandchildren play competitive sports. He would light up watching and talking about them. He loved traveling to Arizona for vacation. He was a man of few words but when he spoke you listened. He was a compassionate person that was kind, tough, hardworking, caring, firm, and loved teaching his family about life. He loved his wife beyond words, she was the love of his life.
