Mr. Donald “Don” V. DeFeo, a longtime resident of Medford and beloved husband of Geraldine “Gerry” R. (DeStefano) DeFeo, passed away unexpectedly at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Sunday, January 21, 2024. He was 73 years old.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on March 8, 1950, he was the beloved son of the late Donald and Salvatrice (Giampapa) DeFeo. Don was a graduate of Emerson College and earned his master’s degree from Fitchburg State. Before retiring in 2022, he was employed as a history teacher at the Marshall Middle School in Billerica for over 20 years. He also taught night school at Billerica Memorial High School, was director of the Billerica Summer Enrichment Program, and served as president of the Billerica Federation of Teachers. Prior to his work in Billerica, he taught at Mission Church High School in Boston and Trinity Catholic High School in Newton.
In his spare time, Don enjoyed traveling to Europe and visiting the Cape. He loved his cigars, watching black and white Westerns, reading, and solving crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed rooting for Boston sports teams, playing golf, and was an excellent cook and gardener. He will be dearly missed.
Besides his beloved wife Gerry, he is survived by his loving children Matthew L. DeFeo and his husband Nicholas J. Persad of Medford, Andrew D. DeFeo of Medford, and Justine M. and her husband Samuel E. DeFederico of Dudley; twin brother Vincent D. DeFeo and his wife Karen Stone of Medford; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Lawrence DeStefano of Natick, Stephen DeStefano and his wife Kiana Koenen of New Salem, Susan Copithorne of Falmouth, Wayne Copithorne of Arlington, and David DeStefano and his partner Patricia Mottla of Burlington. He is also survived by nieces and nephew Molly, Amy, Tyler, Nicole, and Brianna, as well as several cousins.
Visiting hours will be held at Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 4 to 7 PM, with a memorial service at 7 PM. Family and friends are most welcome to attend. Interment will be privately held.
