Fontaine (Manjourides) Anzalone, age 84, a longtime resident of Belmont, passed away on January 22, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Joseph Anzalone for over 63 years.
Born at the Boston Lying-In Hospital on 221 Longwood Avenue, she was the daughter of the late Christi and Cleo (Yassemedis) Manjourides. She was raised in Watertown and later moved with her family to Belmont, where she was a graduate of Belmont High School in 1957. After a stint in the secretarial pool at the iconic Old John Hancock building, she joined her husband in Berlin, where they were stationed at the military base in the American sector of the city. She returned to the Boston area with her newborn daughter in 1962 and settled with her family in Belmont, where she lived for the rest of her life. Proud of her Greek Orthodox faith, she was a fixture at the Taxiarchae church in Watertown, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
For nearly 50 years, Fontaine was a waitress at Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe on Columbus Avenue in Boston's South End. Along with her extended family, she was a pillar of the community, serving breakfast and lunch to local residents, famous and not-so-famous politicians, professional athletes, young professionals, and blue-collar workers with her trademark humor and grace. In her spare time, Fontaine enjoyed reading mysteries and true crime dramas, visiting Cape Cod, traveling south to enjoy the warm Florida sun, and spending time with her husband, her children, and her dog Harry. Most of all, she loved the company of her grandchildren, showering them with home-cooked meals, baked treats, thoughtful gifts, and affection.
In addition to her husband, Joe, Fontaine is lovingly survived by her children: Christa Marie Russo and her husband Rick of Winchester, and Joseph David Anzalone and his wife Abby of Seattle, WA. She was also the devoted grandmother of Anthony and Ava Russo and Charlotte Anzalone, the dear sister of Arthur Manjourides and his wife Geraldine of Amesbury, Marie Fuller and her husband Bill of Braintree, Christi Manjourides and his wife Mary of Davenport, FL and is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
