Obituary

Jay Richard Rasher, age 87, a lifelong resident of Brockton, passed away on January 11, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Sofia (Galateros) Rasher. Born and raised in Brockton, he was the son of the late Jacob and Lillian (Kaplin) Rasher.

He was a graduate of Brockton High School and served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960 before his honorable discharge.

Jay became a teacher for the Brockton School Department for many years and it is where he also met his wife, Sofia.

Some of Jay’s interests in addition to reading include, restoring furniture, teaching himself Spanish, watching sports, especially the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox, and being with his family.

He will be remembered as being a great and loving person, a good dad, incredibly loyal, well-educated, and thoughtful in his actions.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his two children, Nicholas Rasher and his wife Janice of Brockton and Jason Rasher and his wife Laura also of Brockton; three grandchildren, Sydney Jones, James Rasher, and Matteo Rasher; and one great-grandchild, Mason Jones. He was the brother of the late Natalie Marcus and father of the late Charles Mesheau.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, with a funeral service beginning at 1:30 pm, in the Conley Funeral Home. Military honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the funeral service.
