Dr. Morgan Francis Mahoney a resident of Needham for 66 years and formerly Nantucket, died peacefully on January 21, 2024.
Morgan was born on April 19, 1927, to Edward Aloysius Mahoney and Mildred (Collins) Mahoney. He attended Newton High School, Harvard College (’48), and Tufts Medical School (’53). He practiced internal medicine in Needham for 35 years.
His studies were interrupted, when at 17 years old, he volunteered for service in the U.S. Navy, training as a radar specialist.
Morgan met his loving wife, Emilie DuBois Bell in 1958. They were married in 1959 and celebrated their 64th anniversary in November 2023.
Morgan was a devoted father of Morgan Edward and his wife Jennifer of Lynn Haven, FL, Stephen Dudley and his wife Erica, of Wellesley, MA, Mary Beth Warner and her husband Mark of Needham, MA, and Amy Rockett and her husband Peter of Needham.
Morgan is also survived by 17 grandchildren, Maria, Monica, Alexander, Sara, Christopher, Peter, Benjamin, and Thomas Mahoney, Sr. Ann Marie Elizabeth, SV, Christine, Michael, Thomas and Daniel Warner, Morgan, Catherine, Mary Beth, and Emilie Rockett, - all of whom adored “Doc.” Morgan is survived by his sister Madeline Bilodeau of Newtonville and was predeceased by his brother Edward Morgan Mahoney.
A devout member of St. Joseph Parish for 66 years and formerly of the Knights of Columbus. He was a dedicated pro-life supporter.
He had unwavering devotion to his faith, his family, and his profession - and always with dignity. He is a beacon of inspiration to his children and grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 26th at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Church in Needham. Visiting hours are from 4-7 pm on Thursday, January 25th, at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Avenue, Needham. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham.
