Frank M Scala died at the age of 90 on Friday, January 19, 2024. Born in Torre le Nocelle, Italy to Angelina and Giuseppe Scala, he was the eldest of four brothers Mario, Michelle (both predeceased) and Enzo of Montemilleto, Italy. He lived in his beloved family home in Roslindale, Massachusetts for more than fifty years with his wife of sixty four years, Antonietta (Vozzella) Scala. Devoted father to Joseph and Stacey Scala of Franklin, MA, Angela Scala of Roslindale, MA and Frank Scala and Marylin Collazo of Roslindale, MA. Beloved Nonno to his grandchildren Arianna, Nick, Stefano, Ella Scala and Francesco Pena. Loving uncle to Carmela Zezze of North Falmouth, MA, Alfred Vozzella of Orlando, FL, Joanne McDermott of North Carolina, Pina, Angelina and Massimo Scala of Torre le Nocelle, Italy, Angela and Domenico Scala of Basel, Switzerland and Gabriella, Alfredo, Alessandro, Giovanna, and Carla Vozzella of Cagliari, Italy. Brother-in-law to Teodoro and Lena Vozzella of West Roxbury, MA, Enrico and Anastasia Bevilacqua (predeceased) of Falmouth, MA, Ciriaco and Paula Puddu Vozzella (predeceased) of Cagliari, Italy and Prisco and Barbara Vozzella of Melbourne, FL and cousin to Giovanni and Rosa Vozzella of West Roxbury, MA. Frank learned his craft in Italy with his father-in-law and he owned Gino’s Ornamental Iron Works for many years. His iron work can be found throughout the city of Boston parks and schools. A charismatic leader with the kindest of hearts, he was very active in the Italian American community of Boston as past president of the Italian Benevolent Society in Newton, MA and a board member at the Dante Alighieri Society in Cambridge, MA. He also enjoyed his neighbors on the Cape in North Falmouth, MA and served as president of the Old Silver Beach Estates Homeowners Association. He was known to meet with his friends in the North End or Watertown Sons of Italy to play and win bocce tournaments. On Sundays, he spent time being with family for the traditional Sunday dinner.
Family and friends are invited to attend viewing hours on Wednesday, January 24, from 5-7 PM and on Thursday, January 25, from 10-11 AM in the Joseph Russo Funeral Home, 814 American Legion Highway, Roslindale, MA Funeral Mass in celebration of his life will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Roslindale at 11:30 AM with internment in St. Michael Cemetery, 500 Canterbury Street, Roslindale.
