Doris D. (Riendeau) Avelino, 91, of Tiverton, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at home. She was the wife of the late John Avelino.
Mrs. Avelino was born in Woonsocket, RI daughter of the late Edgar and Rose (Cartier) Riendeau and before relocating to Tiverton, had been a lifelong resident of Little Compton. She was a 1950 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School. Prior to retirement, she worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. She had been a member of the little Compton Town Council and was always up for a political debate. Mrs. Avelino was Matron of the Little Compton Police Department where she enjoyed many conversations with her fellow staff. She loved to coupon and thrift shopping.
Survivors include her daughter: Jo-Ann P. Santos and her fiancé Michael Menard of Tiverton; 2 granddaughters: Bridget C. Santos and Margo N. Santos; her great grandson: Ricky L. Barnes, Jr.; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Robert Riendeau.
Funeral to which relatives and friend are invited will be Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Little Compton at 11:00 A.M.
Calling hours Monday from 5-8 P.M.
Interment will be in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Little Compton.
