Doris M. (LaJoie) LaPointe, daughter of the late Albert and Loretta (Cloutier) LaJoie, transitioned from this world suddenly and unexpectedly, on January 17, 2024, leaving a legacy of love, resilience and strength. Doris was a devoted mother, a proud grandmother and great grandmother. She was a force of nature, a warrior of a woman who faced life’s challenges with unwavering determination.
Doris was the proud mother of Thomas P. LaPointe and his wife Janis, Marie J. Smith and her husband Jeffrey and the late David W. LaPointe, Jr. Her family extended to include grandchildren: Christopher LaPointe, Cierrah (Smith) and Derek Neal, Jonathan LaPointe and Mandy Smith. She was also the great grandmother to Liam, Jayce and Rowan Neal.
Throughout her life, Doris exemplified resilience. She faced many personal trials and tribulations with a spirit that refused to be broken. She was a graduate of Brockton High School and over the years she navigated a journey that included marriage to David W. LaPointe, Sr. for 15 years before their paths diverged.
Before Doris retired in 2018, her professional journey led to her rise to the position of factory foreman in a mostly male dominated field. She transitioned into a detailed banking job and in her final role she made a significant impact by advocating for equal opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental challenges.
Doris was a woman with a remarkable sense of humor-mostly through her use of exaggeration. She was a fierce protector of her children and all animals. Despite the hardships she faced, Doris always found a way through to the light, demonstrating an extraordinary ability to persevere. She was an artist and a seamstress and she also enjoyed gardening and baking.
In addition to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Doris is also survived by her younger sister Marie Benoit, many loving nieces and nephews and her “day tripping” cousins whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her older brother Robert LaJoie and younger brother Richard LaJoie.
Doris’s departure from this world occurred on her own terms, in the comfort of her home – a gift facilitated by her devoted daughter Marie and God-send of a son-in-law Jeffrey.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton on Sunday, January 21 from 2-4pm, followed by a funeral service at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to MSPCA-Angell, 350 S. Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130.
