Walter P. Caron, 74, of Edgewater, FL, formerly of Brockton, passed away at the Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, FL on Saturday, July 1 after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Mary (Langill) Caron. Born in Stoughton on September 26, 1931, he was the son of Peter and Yolanda (Caraceto) Caron. Mr. Caron was born and raised in Stoughton. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed on the USS Navy Knapp and finished his Naval career on the USS Yosemite in Newport, RI. Upon his discharge he was appointed to the Brockton Fire Dept. on February 17, 1964 and retired on October 28, 1991. Mr. Caron was a member of the Local 144 Brockton Firefighters Union. He was a resident of Brockton for 42 years before moving to Florida in 1998. In his free time he enjoyed camping, boating and his grandchildren.
Mr. Caron is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Langill) Caron for 52 years and his four children, Kathleen Baker of Norton, Margaret Camillone and Susan Durkee Stober both of Brockton and Peter A. Caron of FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael McAndrews, Jr., Kayla Durkee, Carly Caron and Peter Caron, Jr. and his brother, John Caron of Norwood. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Caron.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, July 10 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday 3-6 PM. Interment will take place at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne. Donations in Walter’s name may be made to the charity of your choice.
