Obituary

Mrs. Wally Sue (Wallace) Simpson passed away in Winchester, MA, at the Winchester hospital on Friday morning, January 12, 2024. She was 82 years old.

Wally was born in Topeka, KS, September 24, 1941, to Richard and Margaret Wallace. Having spent most of her life in Kansas, she had been living in the Boston, MA area for the last several years to be close to family.

She attended Topeka High School, graduating in 1959, and then attended Washburn University, where she was an active member of Delta Gamma Sorority, as well as the Modern Dance Club. Ultimately, Wally graduated with a degree in Education, and went on to teach Kindergarten in Wichita for many years. During her time at Washburn she met and married her beloved husband the late John M. Simpson (Jack). They raised their family and resided in Wichita from 1966 until Jack’s passing in 2018. Jack and Wally enjoyed frequent travel and family gatherings.

Wally Sue was very outgoing and was an active and long-time member of Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), providing educational advancement opportunities for women. She was an avid travel companion to Jack and loved to ride along in the golf cart with him. She also enjoyed cruising around Wichita in her convertible, with her ever-faithful Schnauzer, Barney, by her side. Wally Sue was a longtime member of Central Christian Church and later attended LifeChange Church. She loved attending weekly Bible studies with friends and exercise classes at the YMCA in Wichita followed by coffee after..

Wally Sue is survived by her loving children, James Simpson of Woburn, MA and Mary-Margaret Simpson of Wichita, KS, her brother James Wallace and his wife Elaine, Overland Park, KS, grandchildren Emma Simpson, Reading, MA, and Ian Simpson, Woburn, MA, nieces Susan Neuman, Leawood, KS, Nancy Inwood, Sterling, KS, Ann-Marie Friesema, Woodland Park, CO, Pamela Simpson, Sterling, KS, Melanie Wood, St. Louis, MO, Mary Catherine Kirby, St. Louis, Mo, Emily Remington, Birmingham, AL, nephews Scott Wallace, Overland Park, KS, Michael Simpson, Lenexa, KS.

A memorial service will be held at LifeChange Church, 10225 East Kellogg Drive, Wichita, KS 67207, on Saturday, April 6th, 2024, at 10am. Relatives and friend are most welcome to attend.

Wally Sue will be laid to rest at the Arvonia Cemetery, in Arvonia, KS near her mother Margaret Wallace and others in her family who immigrated from Wales.
