Obituary

Robert B. Stark, 88, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024 at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester. He leaves two daughters, Rebecca Stark of Boylston and Deborah Temple and her husband, Michael of Sterling. Three grandchildren, Zachary Temple and his partner Jared Rella, of Dover, New Hampshire, Devin Temple and Jenna Stark-Chaplin of Boylston, his sister, Barbara Thomson of Leesburg, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years Marion (Drew) Stark, grandson Nathan Stark, and brothers Kenneth, Richard and Raymond Stark.

Bob was born in Holden and was the son of the late Arthur and Mildred (Burnette) Stark and was a lifelong resident of Boylston. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School in 1954. Bob served in the Army National Guard where he was stationed at Ft. Dix In New Jersey. Bob was proud to be a direct descendant of the Revolutionary War hero General John Stark , whom he bared a striking resemblance to.

He worked as a machinist at Wyman Gordon Company, and a bus driver for Trailways for many years. For 43 years he served in the Boylston Fire Department, retiring in 1996 at the rank of Captain.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Boylston and the Straw Hollow Engine Works. Bob was a lover of sports, he played football and ice hockey and enjoyed skiing and swimming. He was an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed attending games with his children and grandchildren. He was most happy being outside. Bob was a lover of dogs, his family is comforted by the fact that he is reunited with his faithful companion, Brandy.

Bob’s family would like to express their deepest thanks to all of the staff at the Jewish Healthcare Center who cared for Bob during his time there. Bob felt truly loved and cared for and was grateful for all of their compassion and friendship.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 10-11 a.m. in Nordgren Funeral Home 300 Lincoln St. Worcester. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Employee Staff Fund at the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury St, Worcester MA 01609 or at www.JHCcenter.org
