Worcester – David M. Devens, 66, of Worcester, passed away in his home on Monday, January 1, 2024 after being stricken ill.
David was born in Worcester, son of the late William Devens and Florence (Berry) Martin. He is survived by a sister, Marie Devens-Moorefield of Spencer; three brothers, William Devens of Worcester, Robert Devens of Phoenix, AZ and Patrick “Joe” Devens of Paxton, MA and many nieces and nephews. David is also predeceased by four sisters, Ailene Devens, Dorothy Harrison, Patricia Benoit and Diane Pane.
Some of the world's bravest people are those who fight a daily battle with themselves. We will never know the darkness David faced every day of his life, or the loneliness that comes with others not fully understanding what you are going through. May we honor him today as a hero who fought tirelessly to the end the most heroic battle, the battle of mental illness. May David find peace within his soul, may he be carried and comforted to the other side where he may feel love, light & happiness, and may he finally be free.
A private graveside service will be held in Saint John’s Cemetery Worcester. Memorial contributions in memory of David may be made to Community Healthlink 26 Queen St. Worcester, MA 01610.
