John Nelson Messemer born July 9, 1969 passed away early morning January 11, 2024. He was 54 years old.
John grew up in Bronx, NY and moved to Kentucky, and later Tennessee as an adult, where he joined Job Corps and was so proud to be living independently. A hard worker with a warm heart and a kind soul, he was meticulously neat and loved ironing. His passion was always cars, from Hotwheels as a kid to working at Jiffy Lube and gas stations as a young adult, to his last job as a day laborer coordinator, driving individuals to their worksites. In 2006, John was permanently disabled in a major car accident which also ended his independent lifestyle. From then on, he lived in assisted living, then in a nursing home, and even though he struggled, you would never know it. In the face of all the obstacles he had, his attitude was bright and his laugh hearty. Early morning January 11, 2024 his health conditions overcame him and he suffered a cardiac arrest. He is survived by his sister and guardian, Glorianne Niebuhr, his sister Clarisse Messemer, his brother Charles-Edward Messemer, his mother, Gloria Messemer and his nieces and nephews. John joins his beloved father, Edward Messemer, in heaven, and can finally be the person he always wanted to be secure in the love of his family and companionship of his father.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial Mass in St. Malachy's Church, 99 Bedford Street, Burlington Tuesday, Jan 16 at 10:00a.m.
