Stephen M. Gallant, 74

Dateline: Norton, MA

Stephen M. Gallant, age 74, of Norton, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, January 13, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Sheila E. (Robbins) Gallant, to whom she was wed on September 5, 1981.

Born in Newton, MA on February 4, 1949, he was a loving son of the late Lawrence and Eleanor (Pierce) Gallant.

Steve grew up in Newton and was a graduate of Newton High School. During the time of the Vietnam War, he made the choice himself to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy. On September 26, 1967 he was honorably discharged from duty.

Prior to retiring, Stephen was employed as a Firefighter for the City of Newton, serving and protecting the community unselfishly for thirty-two years. He was also the proud owner of G.I.U. Roofing, a company he operated for many years

A resident of Norton for the past thirty-nine years, Steve’s greatest love of life was his adoring family, especially his granddaughter Amy. He was a diehard and loyal New England sports fan and had a longtime passion for softball. He played softball for Post #24 in Newton and was also a member of the French American War Veterans.

Steve created many memories in life that his family will cherish forever. Later in life, he developed a love in his heart for cats and sadly missed his late buddy “Magic’, AKA “Chester”. Steve also relished the times spent with his family at Old Orchard Beach in Maine, his daily trips to the store for his newspaper and coffee, playing keno and the simple relaxing pleasure of an ice-cold beer.

In addition to his beloved wife of forty-two years, he is survived by his devoted daughters: Chantal M. Gallant and her partner Michael McClafferty of Franklin and Alexandra L. McLean and her husband Ian of Attleboro. He was the cherished and proud grandfather of Amy B. McLean of Attleboro. He was the dear brother of Carol Flammia of Laconia, NH, Joyce Theriault of Webster, Susan Crisostamo of Rutland, Mary Lou Barmby and her husband John of Georgetown, Delaware and the late Edward Gallant and Jerry Gallant. He was the much-loved son-in-law of Annette D’Orsi of Athol, the late Lloyd Robbins and is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a funeral service with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, in Bourne on Thursday, January 18th at 2:00 P.M. Those attending the services are asked to please arrive at the cemetery by 1:45 P.M.

Following the services in Bourne, a reception will be held at the Norton VFW, 38 Summer Street, in Norton.
