GORHAM- Donald “Don” Francis Doyle, age 88, died on January 9, 2024, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by family.
He was born in Portland, Maine on August 24, 1935, to the late James Doyle Sr and Vera (Wyman) Doyle. He graduated from Deering High School in 1954 and worked at the Portland Pipeline, then for many years at UPS doing home deliveries. Prior to retiring from UPS, he drove 18 wheelers including the double bottom trailers.
Caring for his vegetable and flower gardens were among his favorite activities for many years at his log cabin home in Buxton. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, camping at Cathedral Pines, sailing, and spending time with family and friends. He especially loved eating cherry vanilla ice cream and going to lobster bakes on Cabbage Island.
He was a founding member of the Sokokis Riders snowmobile club. He earned his 50-year pin for his service as a Mason and was also a member of Kora Temple Shriners.
He is predeceased by two brothers, James Doyle Jr and Richard Doyle.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years Lola (Reynolds) Doyle of Gorham, son Jeffrey L Doyle and wife Tammy of Baldwin, daughter Donna Prescott and husband Mark of San Antonio, Texas, son Dennis Doyle and wife Pam of Buxton, along with 10 grandchildren – Danielle, Antonia, Jeffrey (Tyler), Viola, Cynthia, Natalie, Melissa, Brian, Aaron & Nicholas, along with 26 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday January 18th from 10 am to 12 noon, with Masonic Honors and a Celebration of Life to follow at Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road, Buxton. A private interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, 390 US Rt 1, Scarborough, Maine 04074 for their support and comfort in Don’s final days.
