Helen R. (McNulty) O’Brien Of Needham, passed away peacefully on January 5th, 2024 at the age of 96. She was the beloved wife for 73 years of the late Francis P. O’Brien. Loving mother to Helen McCoy of Thornton, CO, Janet Brown and her husband Walter of West Bridgewater, Richard O'Brien and his wife Susan of Tuftonboro, NH and Kathryn Carloni and her husband Barry of Franklin. Cherished grandmother of 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her daughter Diane Hay, grandson Sean McLaughlin, granddaughters Lisa Lougee and Lori George and son-in-law Larry McCoy. Also survived by son-in-law Jack Hay.
Helen was a voracious reader, spending many summer days on Corporation Beach in Dennis. She enjoyed bowling, knitting, and playing games, especially with her grandchildren. Her greatest joys were family gatherings at her home in Needham, where she resided for 71 years.
A graveside service will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 990 LaGrange St. West Roxbury, on Friday, January 12th at 1pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Helen’s memory to a charity of your choice.
