Obituary

STEEP FALLS – Alfred W. Seal Sr. “Butch” 76, passed away on January 3rd, 2024, after battling many health issues over the past several months. Born in Westbrook, Maine, on May 4th, 1947, a son of Ruth Virginia (Shaw) Seal and Chester Frank Seal Sr.
Butch joined the Marine Corp soon after graduating from Gorham High School in 1966. After returning from the service, he attended the Portland School of Art, raised his kids, and ran his own business, a Phillips 66 Gas Station/body shop in Steep Falls, Maine. While nurturing his love for paints and charcoal he pursued his skill for pristine auto body work, antique auto, and motorcycle restoration. He also dabbled in mechanics.
Butch was a colorful man, he was witty, a charmer and never afraid to say what was on his mind. He was a patriot and stood strong in his political views. Butch had an acute insight on the truth of matters concerning important social and governmental issues long before they would come into fruition and would often challenge others to understand and to make a stand. You might hear that he was an original “steel cowboy”, a biker before it was popular and more a notable disposition of character than a hobby. Butch loved animals, dogs, cats, and chickens mostly, but appreciated and enjoyed much of what all of God’s creatures offered.
Soon after becoming clean and sober from drugs and alcohol in 1990, he met his wife, Lisa Gallant Seal and together they began a new chapter, welcoming change while enjoying a new kind of life in sobriety. Not long after “tying the knot” in 1993, Butch and Lisa became believers and followers of Jesus Christ, where a new “kind of life” became a complete, “new life” in Christ for both. In every season, Butch lived his life fully, he was a jack of all trades and very talented at many things. He was a unique individual.
Butch is predeceased by his father, Chet Frank Seal Sr, of Gorham, his brother Chester Frank Seal Jr. of Sebago and grandson, Joshua A. Seal of Lisbon. Butch is survived by his wife, Lisa Gallant Seal, son’s, Alfred W. Seal Jr. of Standish, Ethan J. Hanson of Jacksonville NC and daughter, Kelly J. Johns of Gorham. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, his mother Ruth Virginia Seal of Gorham, sisters & spouses, Pam and Joey Hulit of Steep Falls, Linda and Robin Hulit of Gorham and Evangeline and Gary Nelson of Gorham.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 13th at 3 PM, visiting hours beginning at 1 PM at the Chad E Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road Rt. 22), Buxton.
A Marine Corps Funeral Honors ceremony will follow in the spring, at Steep Falls Cemetery.
