Violet M. Olsen, 89

Violet M. (McCool) Olsen, age 89, of Sandwich, formerly of West Roxbury, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the Serenity Hill Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Wrentham. She was the beloved wife of Albert S. “Buddy” Olsen, to whom she was wed for sixty-seven years.
Born in Boston, MA on December 14, 1934, she was a loving daughter of the late Floyd N. and Catherine M. (MacEachern) McCool.
Violet grew up in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston and was a 1952 graduate of Jamaica Plain High School. She had made her home in Sandwich for thirty years and was a former resident of West Roxbury. A dedicated homemaker to her adoring family, Mrs. Olsen had worked for over twenty years as an Administrative Assistant for the Boston Public Schools, prior to retiring.
Violet’s family was truly the focal point of her life and at the time of her death was anticipating the birth of her fourth great grandchild. She cherished the summers and lifelong memories created on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia and will always be fondly remembered for her charitable nature. Violet was an accomplished and talented quilter and member of the Bayberry Quilters of Cape Cod. She was a recipient of many quilting awards, was highly recognized for her quality quilting skills and received so much pleasure making quilts for infants, as well as many other organizations.
Violet was a communicant of Corpus Christi Parish in Sandwich and an avid supporter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Her other hobbies included bingo, card games and the fun and excitement of scratch tickets.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by her devoted children: Philip Olsen and his wife Mary Doherty of Winchester, Steven Olsen of Norton and his late wife Marcy, Debra Worrall of Norton and her late husband John, Catherine Whitney and her husband Glenn of North Attleboro, Robert Olsen and his Paula of Wilbraham, Jon Olsen and his wife Denise of West Orange, New Jersey and Brian Olsen of New York City, New York. She was the dear sister of the late Catherine Marie Olson and Adeline McCool. She is also survived by her cherished 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, as well as her loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, January 10th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
Her funeral will begin on Thursday, January 11th at 10:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power Street, Norton. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Violet’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, care of Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power Street, Norton, MA 02766.
