Jeffrey, A Smith, 63, passed away on December 20, 2023, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness. He was the son of the late Beverly (Gustafson) Smith and the late Wendell Smith. Jeff was born in Waltham, Ma on July 14, 1960. He was raised in Tewksbury and played football and baseball for the town. He attended Tewksbury Memorial High School and graduated with the class of 1978. While in high school, he worked on a loading dock, at the young age of 15, for Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer, Dom DiMaggio, in Tewksbury, Ma, which he was very proud of. After high school, he worked for Merrimack Magnetics as a technician, where he met his wife Claire, celebrating 43 years of marriage this past May.
Jeff was a transformer design engineer working for TECO Corporation and Century Magnetics International. He retired in September 2022. Jeff was a simple guy who enjoyed good company, for conversation. He knew a little bit about everything and was an avid history buff. He was known to give the best advice and help anyone that he could. His true joy was taking care of his family. He was a very proud husband and father, and will be deeply missed by them.
He loved music, especially the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix. He would emphasize that the only way to listen to them, is “very loud!” Jeff enjoyed an occasional whiskey, walking the track at Shedd Park in Lowell, caring for his cats, Jack and Nelly, and watching reruns of the Three Stooges.
Jeff was spiritual and attended the Tewksbury Congregational Church on Sundays. He was a frequent caller on WCAP radio station, in Lowell, and was known as, “Smitty Says”, which he greatly enjoyed discussing on various topics.
He is survived by his wife, Claire (Courtemanche) Smith of Lowell, his daughter, Stephanie Smith of Nashua NH, his son, Brian Smith and his wife Alyssa Smith of Chelmsford. He leaves five grandchildren, Hailey Boisvert, Harper Boisvert, Hadley Boisvert, Carter Smith, and Olivia Smith, his brother, Stephen Smith and his wife Cindy Smith of Maine, a sister in law Midge Smith of Hampton NH, his brother Mike, whom was his best friend, and his wife Lydia Smith of Tewksbury.
Jeff is the brother of the late David Smith and the friend of the late Karl Vincent.
He leaves many other relatives and friends. Jeff’s family would like to thank the ICU at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in Boston for the most wonderful care of Jeff and support during such a heartbreaking time.
