LUDLOW – Audrey M. (Broski) Sawicki, 94, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024, at Mary’s Meadow at Providence Place in Holyoke. Born in Russell on May 20, 1929, she was a beloved daughter of the late Sylvester and Della (Reed) Broski. She graduated from Westfield High School, Class of 1947, where she was a four-year member of the Pro Merito Honor Society and was awarded the Washington and Franklin Medal for Excellence in American History. Over her lifetime, she was employed at Anchorage Homes in Westfield, Aetna Life Insurance in Springfield, Ozite Carpeting in Chicago, IL and the Department of the Army at Fort Knox, KY. She retired in 1986 as an Executive Secretary at the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management in Washington, DC, where she received two Superior Service Awards. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, an Abner Gibbs School Room Mother, Social and Corresponding Secretary for the Air National Guard Wives Club at Barnes Airport in Westfield, and President of the Holy Family League of Charity in Westfield. She was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) and served as Secretary, Newsletter Editor, and Publicity Officer of their Springfield Chapter 221. She was a member of many organizations and clubs, including the Polish Junior League. Audrey was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Sawicki, who was Called Home on May 24, 1992; her loving son, Jack C. Sawicki, who was Called Home on May 24, 2009; and her three dear sisters and their spouses, Isabella H. Knowles (Earle), Pearl M. Malawka (John) and Jean F. Bush (Roger). She leaves her beloved grandson, Scott A. Sawicki, and daughter-in-law, Judith L. Wheat, both of Arlington, VA; her many dear nieces and nephews and their spouses including Goddaughter, Linda Consolini (Donald), Cheryl Dunn (James), Brenda Scott (Richard), Maureen Napoles (David), Roger Bush (Linda), Steven Bush (Valerie), Jane Kearns, Deborah Cadman (Mark), Rebecca Cogan (James), Nicollette Larson (David), Victor Marchese (Nancy), Richard Marchese (Diane), Sr. Mary of the Sacred Heart of the Dominican Nuns of West Springfield, Alexander “Magic Al” Sawicki (Mary Lou), Paulette Fulmer (James), Glenn Sawicki, Roberta Page, and Richard Page (Linda); many dear grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends. Audrey’s family would especially like to thank the staff at Mary’s Meadow for the loving care given to Audrey while she was there. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary Church, 30 Bartlett Street, Westfield, MA 01085, (please meet directly at the Church). Her Burial will be private at Saint Mary Cemetery in Westfield. There are no visiting hours.
