Margarita ‘Margie’ Hernandez, 73 of Lowell, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Lowell General Hospital. She was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on February 22, 1950.
In 1966, she relocated to the United States, settling in Long Island before moving to Lowell in 1986 where she lived the rest of her life. She worked at Lowell Textile Mills for 5 years in the 90’s before dedicating her life to raising her family.
She is survived by her sons, Ramon Cortez of Lowell, Frank Cortez of Lowell, Gloria Suarez of Connecticut, Maria Pena of Lowell, Jessenia Ayala of Lowell, and Jennifer Alvarez of Linden, NJ; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Harry Espinal of Lowell; her brother, Peter Hernandez, also of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Margie was also the mother of the late Edwin Cortez.

On Wednesday, January 10, 2024 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 4-7 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816.
On Thursday morning her calling hours will be from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by her service in the funeral home at 11 a.m.. Procession will follow for burial at Lowell Cemetery on Knapp Ave. in Lowell.
