Sylvia A. (DeBonis) Lawton, 85, of Westport, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2023. She was the life partner of William E. Lawton, Sr. - over 65 years joined in holy matrimony and over 70 years as friends and companions.
Mrs. Lawton was born in Fall River, daughter of the late Sylvester and Helen (Jordan) DeBonis. Traveling around the United States with her husband and family, Sylvia has resided in Westport for the last 36 years. After returning to Massachusetts she was able to connect with her lifelong friend and bridesmaid, Joan Sheedy of Brockton, MA. She was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School and then went on to Katherine Gibbs School where she was trained as an executive secretary. She ended her career in the jewelry industry in Rhode Island. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Sylvia loved to challenge her intellect and creativity - including reading, music, knitting, and quilting.
Survivors along with her husband include her son: William Lawton, Jr. and his wife Soontree of Jacksonville, FL ; her 2 daughters: Sue Ubiera and her husband Reyes of Westport and Tracy Lawton Tetreault of New Bedford along with 3 grandchildren: Sylvee Ubiera, Liam Ubiera and Carleigh Tetreault. Also survived by her cousin Vincent Dusio and his wife Penelope of NH.
