Obituary

Dorothy (Sullo) Siegel, 81, surrounded by her loving family, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, January 2nd, at Good Samaritan Hospital after a long courageous battle with health issues. She was the devoted wife of the late Korean War Veteran Peter Siegel and loving mother to Terri Bliss and her husband Stephen of Easton, William Siegel and his wife Renée of Mansfield, Carolyn Chiocco and her husband Steven of Mansfield, Christine Adams and her husband Steven of Easton. She was the loving grandmother of Kaitlyn Donovan and her husband Michael, Jaclyn Bliss, Nicholas Chiocco and his wife Gina, Kelsey Brown and her husband Robert, Christopher Chiocco, Ryan Adams, Jared Adams, William Chiocco, Madelyn Siegel, and Samantha Siegel, and adoring great grandmother to Liam and Olivia Donovan. She was the loving sister of her brother George Sullo.

Dorothy was born and raised in Manhattan, New York on 11th Street to the late John Sullo, a featherweight boxer, trainer and cut man for champions like ‘Rocky’ Marciano and Benny ‘The Kid’ Paret, and to the late Vera Sullo, longtime associate of Gimbels department store. Dottie cherished her childhood in New York City with her large close knit family. She grew up skating at Rockefeller center, going to the movies at the Astor Theater, playing stickball in the street, and roller skating at Jones Beach. She treasured her summers at Rova Farms resort in New Jersey with her brother and beloved cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. She attended PS 60 and then Washington Irving High School. Dottie was an exceptional student and at age 16 she graduated as the valedictorian of her class after skipping two grades. She not only was intelligent but was a beauty and attended Barbizon modeling school. She attended Hunter College, earned the #1 stenographer and #3 typist title in New York State and became secretary to the vice president of Pan-Am airlines then moved to Long Island.

In 1960 Dorothy married Peter and they began their family in Commack, then grew it in Massapequa, NY. They moved to Yarmouth Port, MA in 1973 where they proudly raised their children. Dorothy was a modest and prayerful woman. She was a proud member of the Saint Pius the Tenth Women's club where she gave her time and talents crafting for the annual Christmas Fair. Throughout her life she was an Avon representative, worked in the elementary school cafeteria, the original Christmas Tree Shop, managed her husband’s Painting and Remodeling business, and became a knowledgeable and successful Realtor.

Dottie was a “Wonder Woman” raising four kids, and did everything from running the household and going to ballgames to being a Brownie leader and sewing costumes, entertaining family and friends with her spreads with generosity and love. She had a soothing voice, gentle soul and incredible patience. She welcomed and loved many family pets over the years. She could tackle any puzzle or project with creativity and ingenuity. She was an avid reader and loved sharing her wisdom and passions. Dorothy took piano lessons and painted. She loved planning her yearly yard sale as she was an avid yardsaler herself collecting gems such as her favorite, depression glass. Dorothy loved seashells and studying about antiques was a hobby she enjoyed and shared with her brother George through the years, and later on with her grandsons. She treasured traveling with her brother and his good friend Marcos especially their cruise and their trip to California.

In recent years after Dorothy moved to Easton, she often was found watching the Hallmark channel, her favorite news channel and Survivor, doing late night crosswords, puzzles, going to Bingo with her grandsons, shopping the Market Basket sale flyer, compiling her heirloom recipe book, sharing her love of plants with her grandson, chatting about real estate with her son-in-law, and visits from her grandchildren and sweet great grands Liam and Olivia. She proudly told anyone she met of her three daughters having husbands named Steve and her wonderful son and daughter in law who brought her 2 beautiful girls later in her life to even the score of grandchildren to 5 girls/5 boys. Dorothy especially adored her two great grandchildren Liam and Olivia, and loved watching Liam play with his cars. She was so proud of the family Stonehill legacy and still enjoyed rides throughout the beautiful campus. Dorothy was blessed and grateful to have incredible loving caregivers when she needed them the most. She enjoyed keeping everyone informed on the weather and happenings of the world, and loved sharing her cooking knowledge with her caregivers, daughters, and grandchildren. She loved her Rosary beads, Miraculous Medals, and praying to the Virgin Mary.

Even into her final days Dorothy was the strength of her entire family and taught us all many lessons. Her greatest joy in life was her family, spending time with them going out to dinner, family food competitions, and celebrating the numerous milestones of her big beautiful family. We will always remember her as the center of our family. She will be forever missed and cherished by her brother, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren for her love, kindness, faith and recipes.
