George M. Dunn, 89, of Whitman passed away Saturday December 30th, 2023 at the South Shore Hospital.
George was born July 2, 1934 in Plymouth, son to the late Everett Dunn and Myrtle Chandler.
He went on to proudly serve our country for the United States Navy in 1954, where he served overseas for two years. He worked many years for General Dynamics at the Quincy shipyard. George was also a maintenance man for Milepost Restaurant in Duxbury after he retired from the shipyard. He had worked there up until he turned 88 years old.
George loved woodworking, bowling, golfing, but above anything else was spending time with his family and friends.
George was the loving husband to the late Patricia (Doherty) Dunn for 46 years. He is also predeceased in death by his brothers Norman Dunn of Rockland, Stephen Dunn of Plymouth, and Denny Dunn of Florida. As well as his late sister Sharon (Dunn) Umbriana of Rockland. And by his companion Mary Walters of Illinois.
He is survived by his three children, George Dunn Jr. of Connecticut, John Dunn of Halifax, and Robin (Dunn) Bailey and Steven of Weymouth. His brothers Sonny Dunn of Florida, Phillip Dunn of Rockland, and Dickie Dunn of Rockland. His sister Myrtle Chandler Valley of Washington. Alongside his six grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend George’s visiting hours Sunday, January 7th from 2:00-5:00 Pm in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A funeral service will be Monday, January 8th at 10:00 AM in the funeral chapel. Burial will follow at Mayflower Cemetery, 774 Tremont Street, Duxbury.
