Thomas F. Galyas, 85, of Ware Road in Dayville, CT., passed away after a brief illness on December 29th in his home. He was the husband of the late Rita (Gallant) Galyas. They had been married for 63 years.
Born in the Bronx, New York, a son of the late Gabriel and Theodora (Savalak) Galyas. He had lived in Dayville, CT and previously living in Leesburg, FL and Glocester, RI. He was a US Navy veteran serving as a Navy Chief from 1957 to 1977. He had been a self-employed Electrician.
Tom liked to play poker at Westview Commons and enjoyed an occasional trip to Foxwoods. He enjoyed watching sports on the TV and he loved spending time with his babies.
He leaves his children, Kenneth W. Galyas of Hopkinton, RI, Paula Greb of Killingly, CT, Karla Galyas Wilson of Sandy, OR and Pam Roldan of Gresham, OR. He was a grandfather of 28 grandchildren. He was the brother of Robert Galyas of Voluntown, CT and Jim Galyas of Lakewood, NJ. He was the father of the late Thomas Galyas, Jr., Timothy Galyas and Patricia Galyas. He was the grandfather of the late Ken Galyas, Jr. He was the brother of the late Carol Strong.
His funeral will be held on Saturday January 6th at 9am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Eugene Church, 1251 Putnam Pike, Glocester, RI. Burial with Military Honors will be in Acote’s Hill Cemetery. Visitation Friday January 5th from 4-7pm.
