Ellen Marie Flowers, a life-long resident of Woburn passed away unexpectedly at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, January 1, 2024, following a short period of declining health. She was 60 years old. Born in Stoneham, Ellen was the beloved daughter of the late Philip A. and Edna R. (Mattucci) Flowers.
Raised and educated in Woburn, she was a graduate of Woburn High School with the class of 1981. She went on to further her education earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and her Master's degree from Boston College. A gifted and compassionate Nurse for 38 years Ellen most recently worked as the Director of Nursing at the Tewksbury State Hospital, a position she has held for many years. She also taught as a Professor and Clinical Instructor at Salem State College for 14 years. In her leisure time she enjoyed baking and cooking sharing all her culinary and baking delights with family, friends and patients. Ellen was always full of energy and loved to keep busy. She will fondly be remembered for her compassion toward others and selfless demeanor, always putting other's needs before her own. She will be greatly missed.
Ellen is survived by her sister; Catherine Flowers of Tewksbury, her nieces Brittany Bunch and her daughter Adelina of Houston, TX, Sarah Bunch of Woburn; her brother Philip Flowers, his wife Heather and their children Penny and Gabriel of Clarksville, OH, as well as longtime friends Karen Johnson of Woburn and Shelley LeCours of Bedford, NH. Further survived by many cousins and many friends.
A prayer service will be conducted at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Saturday, January 6th, at 2:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Ellen's memory to the DMH Hathorne Canteen Fund, Tewksbury State Hospital, c/o Brad Richardson, 365 East St., Tewksbury, MA 01876.
