Paul W. Ohman, 83, of Auburn, MA passed away with loved ones gathered at his side on Saturday, December 30, 2023, after an extended illness.
Paul was the youngest boy of seven children of Francis and Signe (Soderquist) Ohman. Paul is survived by his wife and life partner of nearly 55 years, Nancy (Prentice) as well as children, Paul H. Ohman and his wife, Kim Chenevert Ohman, of Auburn, daughter Kim Ohman Zweig and her husband, Greg, of Burlington MA, his sister Jane Tuccio of Maine and three granddaughters, Brianna Ohman and her partner Joey Nelson, Kennadi Ohman and her partner Mark Hiscock, and Adaline Ohman. Paul recently celebrated becoming a great grandfather to Charlie Paul Nelson. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom, when little, he enjoyed joking and rough housing with. He was predeceased by brothers Robert, Phillip, and David Ohman, sisters Dorothy Trainor and Lois Lynch as well as brother in-law and friend Matty Tuccio.
Paul followed in the footsteps of his father and two of his brothers, joining the Worcester Police Department in 1973. He served the residents of Worcester for over 30 years, rising through the ranks, first as a Sergeant and later as a Lieutenant; he retired in 2005.
Paul loved family gatherings of all kinds, initially at his parents’ camp in Leicester and later at weekend cookouts with his brothers, sisters, and their families. He was also a lifelong fan of Maine’s beaches where after retirement, he and Nancy enjoyed spending summers in Wells, ME with family and many close friends.
Paul grew up on Belmont Hill in Worcester, attending Commerce High where he played hockey and was Captain of the football team. His love of sports never wavered, including watching the Red Sox, Patriots and most importantly, the Bruins. He always enjoyed lifting weights, reading, cookies, sweets, a big meal and listening to Howie Carr “stir up trouble”. He also looked forward to meeting up with his brother Phil and their morning coffee group to “solve all the world’s problems.”
Calling hours will be on Saturday, January 6th from 9:30 am to 11, followed by funeral services at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St, Worcester, MA. Burial services will be private. Parking will be free, otherwise Paul would not be attending…
The family would like to thank the healthcare workers of UMass Memorial for their wonderful care, kindness, and friendship they provided to Paul. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Newport News, VA.
