Joseph P. Conti
Member and Officer of Teamsters Local 25

TEWKSBURY: Joseph P. Conti, age 88, a resident of Tewksbury for 26 years, formerly of Somerville, passed away at Lowell General Hospital on Thursday, December 28, 2023.

He was the beloved husband of Judith E. (Gough) Conti, with whom he celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary on October 4, 2023.

Born in Everett on June 27, 1935, he was the son of the late Joseph Conti and the late Mary (Allard) Conti.

Joseph was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School.

He was a member of Teamster’s Local 25 for 57 years. During his career, Joe worked as a truck driver for several companies including WTC Air Freight, Gilman Liquors, Sheraton Fitzgerald and the Coastal Oil Company. In 1999, he was elected to the Teamsters Local Retiree Chapter, where he served as Trustee, Secretary-Treasurer, and then President in 2006. Joe served as co-chair of the Teamster supported community charities including Toys for Tots, and the Blood Bank. In addition, he was a member of the Teamster’s Autism Gala Planning Committee as well as a RAFT member.

In his spare time, Joe enjoyed traveling with his wife.

Besides his wife, Joe is survived by two daughters, Sharon M. Elderd and her husband Kevin, of Wilmington and Kimberly L. Dragone and her husband Phillip, of Stoneham: seven grandchildren, Nicholas F. Zappala, Cristina M. Vivace, Marco J. Zappala, Kevin C. Elderd, Jr. Brian M. Elderd, Phillip J. Dragone, and Christopher J. Dragone: two brothers, Lawrence A. Conti, of Palermo, ME, and Gerard P. Conti, of Center Barsnstead, NH.

Calling hours are Monday, January 8th, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. His funeral procession will begin Tuesday, January 9th at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham. Services will conclude with interment at Lindenwood Cemetery in Stoneham.
