Janis M. Mercadante, 76

Janis M. (DeMarco) Mercadante, age 76, most recently of Mansfield, formerly of Bellingham and Medfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the Hope Health Hospice Center in Providence. She was the beloved wife of Richard L. Mercadante, to whom she was wed on August 17, 1969.
Born in Boston, MA on January 21, 1947, she was a loving daughter of the late William and Margaret (Bruno) DeMarco
Janis grew up in the North End of Boston and was a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Boston. She was a dedicated homemaker to her adoring family and was also employed as a Retail Clerk at DeCelle’s in Medfield. Janis had made her home in Mansfield for the past six months and previously resided for many years in Bellingham and Medfield.
While living in Mansfield, Janis was a parishioner of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield, a former longtime communicant of Saint Edward’s Church in Medfield and along with her husband, was a member of the Italian American Club.
Janis’s family, whom she loved dearly, always came first. She was an avid bridge player and cherished many close friendships for over forty years. Janis and Richard were worldwide travelers and treasured the winter months spent in Delray Beach, Florida and annual summer vacations in York, Maine.
In addition to her husband of fifty-four years, she is survived by her devoted children: Jennifer O’Brien and her husband Mark of Mansfield, Marc Mercadante and his wife Mary of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey and Stefanie Mercadante of Marlboro. She was the cherished grandmother of Mark, Jr., Lily, Christopher, Kevin, Evan and Fiona. She was the dear sister of William Demarco of Toronto, Canada, Maria Hernandez of Avon, the late Marguerite Steriti and is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Monday, January 8th at 11:30 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will be private.
